Pine cone, check!

Peanut butter, check!

Mixed bird seeds and a little green lentils, check!

A little twine, check!

You’ve got everything you need to make a beautiful eco friendly and sustainable bird feeder.

This activity is perfect on a rainy day or to make the end of hibernation of the birds. From mid January onwards, birds will be emerging from their hibernation looking for natural foods In many habitats there isn’t enough food for the birds to feed. Therefore, it’s important us humans do our part to support these vital animals who do amazing jobs for the worlds ecological system.

We choose to use a giant Jeffrey pine cone

Step one – add twine to your pinecone

We wrapped our twine around the top of the cone weaving it in and out until secured. Then tied a knot in the top.
Add peanut butter – we used lolly pop stick
Time to add the seeds and lentils -we placed a bowl underneath the cone to catch rouge seeds.
Pine cone looks very full, well done!!

Its now time to hang it out.

Choose a tree branch, bush or washing line or similar to hang your feeder.

Why not supper the RSPB by spotting the birds that come into your garden and letting them know or joining in the other campaigns they run throughout the year.
